Junior Software Engineer: AI Focused (Madrid)

Location: Madrid, office-based

Type: Part-time, 15-20 hours per week

Expected start: October

The Role:

We’re looking for a junior software engineer to help us build the internal systems, tools and AI-driven automations that run behind the scenes at The Roadmap.

This isn’t a website-building role, that’s covered by our Web Developer. This is about building the things that make the rest of the company faster: internal tools, workflow automation, AI integrations, and the systems that connect our platforms together.

You won’t be handed a finished spec and told to execute it line by line. You’ll be given a real problem, some direction, and the room to work out a good solution — with support while you learn.

Work Pattern:

Based in Madrid(office)
Part-time, 15-20 hours per week
Works closely with our development and systems team as you ramp up

What You’ll Do:

Build and maintain internal tools and scripts that support day-to-day operations.
Work on automation connecting platforms like Google Workspace, Monday.com, Slack and our CRM.
Support the integration of AI tools into internal workflows.
Investigate problems, test solutions and improve systems as you find issues.
Document what you build so it can be maintained and handed over cleanly.
Work alongside our development team on shared technical decisions.
Use AI tools yourself to work faster and think through problems — we expect this, not just allow it.

This Role Is For Someone Who Has...

Recently graduated (or is about to graduate) in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
A genuine track record of building things; university projects, personal projects, hackathons, freelance work, anything real and finished.
Solid fundamentals in at least one programming language, and the ability to reason about problems rather than just recall syntax.
Curiosity about AI and automation, and some hands-on experience using AI tools to build or learn.
The ability to explain what you built and why, not just show the finished result.

This Role Is Also For Someone Who Can Learn Quickly To...

Work with The Roadmap’s specific stack and internal systems.
Understand how a small, fast-moving company actually operates day to day.
Take a loosely defined problem and turn it into a working solution.
Balance building things properly with shipping at a reasonable pace.

You’re not joining a huge engineering team where you’ll spend a year on one small piece of a system, you’ll see how the whole thing fits together.
