Web Developer at The Roadmap

Overview:

At The Roadmap, we’ve built over 300 websites for Irish and UK businesses and are now expanding into Spain and beyond. We’re looking for a Web Developer to lead our website delivery quality, manage technical standards across all builds, and support the next phase of our growth, from websites to custom apps and Web UI development.

This is a hybrid role based in Madrid, joining a skilled, long-term team working on WordPress and Web UI projects. You’ll take ownership of website quality and development standards, collaborate closely with designers and developers, and help shape our growing platform. There’s a genuine path to a full-time leadership role with more responsibility, autonomy and long-term reward.

What You’ll Do :

Oversee the quality, functionality and reliability of all client websites
Mentor and review the work of other developers on the team
Build and maintain WordPress and Elementor websites, plus Shopify
Handle hosting, domains, DNS, backups, security and plugin setup (SiteGround and Hostinger primarily)
Manage custom tasks and troubleshooting: speed, layout, integration, database and API issues
Investigate and fix website errors or malware, identify root causes, and document prevention steps
Support account managers by diagnosing client-reported issues and giving clear, fast solutions
Contribute to internal projects: our Web UI, client dashboard, and automation systems (Google Workspace, Monday.com, Slack and similar)
Stay current with AI tools, automation and web development innovations

What "Good" Looks Like:

Client sites run reliably with minimal recurring issues
Problems are diagnosed properly before being fixed, not guessed at
Other developers’ work is reviewed constructively and standards genuinely improve
Clients and account managers get clear, fast, non-technical explanations
You bring solutions, not just problems

What You Should Have:

5+ years of hands-on development experience, WordPress and Elementor essential
Strong HTML, CSS and JavaScript, ideally PHP, Python is a bonus
Solid knowledge of hosting platforms such as SiteGround, cPanel, database management and troubleshooting
Ability to audit, debug and optimise websites without relying on online guides
Experience reviewing or mentoring other developers’ work
Excellent communication, able to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical teammates
Active interest in AI, automation and system efficiency
A proactive, reliable mindset, the kind of person the team knows will handle problems calmly and thoroughly
